Bucs post 2-3 record for the week
New Ulm 10, BEA 4
The Blue Earth Area baseball team struggled against New Ulm on Friday, May 15.
The Bucs lost to the Eagles 10-4. BEA had only four hits in the game, all coming in the last three innings.
The Buccaneers were behind just 1-0 after the first four innings, but then both teams started getting runs across the plate. BEA got three in the fifth, New Ulm added four more for a 5-3 lead.
In the sixth the Eagles scored five more runs, while the Bucs added just one in the seventh.
Mat Willner was 2 for 4 for the Bucs, with a home run.
Four pitchers were on the mound for BEA.
Collectively they gave up just six hits and struck out six, but issued 12 walks.
BEA 15, Meadow Creek 5
The Buccaneers played in two games in the Mankato East Tournament last Saturday, May 16. They won one, lost one.
The win came against Meadow Creek. BEA came up with 12 hits and won 16-5.
Garrett Anderson was 3 for 3 for BEA, while Jonah Pirsig went 2 for 2 and Mat Willner was 2 for 3.
The Bucs had three runs in both the first and fifth innings, and exploded for seven in the fourth.
Taylor Owen pitched four innings for the Bucs, giving up the five runs on nine hits.
Garrett Anderson came in for an inning of relief and struck out three batters.
Mankato West 15, BEA 5
The Buccaneers loss came at the hands of Mankato West, 15-5.
The Bucs jumped out to a 4-2 lead after the first inning, but Mankato West exploded for 11 runs in the fourth inning to put the game out of reach.
Carter Hanson was 2 for 2 for BEA. Collin Nienhaus, Dalton Hurn, Garrett Anderson and Jonah Pirsig were all 1 for 3.
Pirsig took the loss, giving up nine runs on six hits.
Fairmont 4, BEA 3
Blue Earth Area suffered a heartbreaking 4-3 loss against Fairmont on Monday night.
The game was tied 2-2 after the first inning.
Fairmont got two more runs in the third to go up 4-2.
The Bucs rallied in the seventh inning and got a run, but couldn’t come up with another.
Jared Smith was 2 for 2 for BEA, while Mat Willner went 2 for 4. The Bucs had eight hits, while Fairmont had just five.
Brady Anderson pitched for the Bucs, giving up the four runs, three of them earned. He struck out three and walked four.
BEA 13, MCW 5
Tuesday night in Blue Earth the Buccaneer bats got as hot as the temperature as the Bucs beat the Martin County West Mavericks 13-5.
The Bucs out hit the Mavs 14-11. BEA used a series of hits and walks (four in a row) in the second inning to bring in eight runs.
Connor Hanson got the win, going five innings, giving up eight hits, striking out four and only issuing one base on balls.
Garrett Anderson and Carter Hanson came in to pitch the last two innings.
Mat Willner led the hitting for the Bucs, going 4 for 5 at the plate.
Carter Hanson was 3 for 4, Joe Franta was 2 for 3 and Anderson went 2 for 4.
Willner and Franta each had three RBIs.
