Bucs soar past Cards, now face No. 1 seed Holy Family

The Blue Earth Area tennis team cruised to a 5-2 win over Fairmont in the opening round of the Section 2A Tennis Meet.

The No. 4 seeded Bucs jumped to a 5-0 lead before the final two matches were played. The Bucs had beaten the fifth-seeded Cards 4-3 earlier in the season.

BEA now moves on to face the No. 1 seeded Holy Family Catholic team on Thursday.

At No. 1 singles, Matthew Purvis defeated Fairmont’s Paul Miller 6-1, 1-6, 6-4.

At second singles, Riley Holmseth won with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Dylan VonBank.

Third singles player Aaron Wilhelmi won 6-2, 6-0 over Josh Vetter. Wade Wilhelmi, at No. 4 singles, with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Alex Kopishke.

Garrett Passer and Justin Duelge defeated Spencer King and Tony Hoong at No. 1 doubles, 6-3, 6-4.

No. 2 doubles team of Colan Surratt and Hans Kittleson lost to Garrett Cochran and Spencer Seibert, 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 6-4.

Taylor Umland and Alex Cleppe, the Buc’s No. 3 doubles team, were defeated by Taylor Burgraff and Luke Sandersfeld 6-3, 4-6, 10-3.
