Team advances to Sections in St. James
After winning the South Central Conference crown by just two strokes earlier in the week, the Blue Earth Area girls golf team won the 2AA West Sub-Section Golf Meet by an even closer margin – just one stroke.
The Bucs came in with a 407, just one stroke lower than Mankato East’s 408 on Tuesday.
BEA’s Jessica Skaare and Olivia Skaare tied with 99 each, which was fifth place overall. Jessica carded a 51-48, while Olivia came in with 53-46.
“The girls had a good day,” Coach Al Cue said. “It’s a tough course and the wind picked up pretty good on the back nine.”
The sub-section was held at Fairmont’s Interlaken Course.
Mackenzie Lein added a 103 (53-50) for BEA, while Autumn Drake came in with a 106 (53-53) to make the Bucs’ 407 team total.
“Although the score isn’t one of our best, it was the best score of the day,” Cue said. “And we get to move on to sections.”
Cue pointed out that Olivia Skaare and Drake played well below their average scores.
“They really helped us in the meet,” Cue said. “Mackenzie shot below her season average as well.”
Morgan Dickman shot a 114 (56-58) and Allie Curtis a 128 (61-67) for the other Buc scores.
BEA now moves on to play in the 2AA Section Meet held in St. James on Tuesday.
Other scores at the sub-section include LeSueur-Henderson third with 412, USC fourth with 422, St. Peter fifth at 430, Sibley East sixth with 457, NRHEG seventh at 462 and Maple River eighth with 587.
