W. Wilhelmi nets singles title

Wade Wilhelmi proved why he was the No. 1 seed at No. 4 singles in the South Central Conference Tennis Tournament.

He went on to win the conference title, the only Blue Earth Area player to do so.

The Buccaneers also claimed one second place and two third place finishes.

Wilhelmi won his first match 6-7 (9-7), 6-4, 6-4 over his New Ulm opponent.

In the championship match, he defeated a player from Waseca 6-3, 1-6, 6-3.

Aaron Wilhelmi, playing at No. 3 singles, was the Buccaneer player who claimed the second place trophy.

Wilhelmi was the No. 2 seed and won his first match 6-2, 6-2 against an opponent from Fairmont. He lost his second match – for the conference title – to a player from St. Peter by the close scores of 7-5, 5-7, 10-8.

Matthew Purvis, at No. 1 singles, took third place. He was seeded No. 2 and lost to the No. 3 seeded player from Fairmont, 6-1, 6-3 in his first match.

Purvis came back to claim third place by defeating his St. Peter opponent 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.

At No. 2 singles, Riley Holmseth also won his match for third place.

After losing the first match to the No. 3 seeded player from Fairmont, 6-2, 6-2, the No. 2 seeded Holmseth came back and won the third place trophy. He defeated a player from Waseca 2-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Garrett Passer and Justin Duelge wound up in fourth place at No. 1 doubles.

The No. 3 seeded team won their first match 6-1, 6-2. They lost to the No. 2 seeded team in their second match, 6-0, 4-6, 6-4 before losing 6-3, 4-5, 6-2 in the the third place match.

Colan Surratt and Hans Kittleson were seeded fourth at No. 2 doubles. They lost their first match 6-4, 7-5, then lost in the fifth place match, 6-3, 6-3.

Harry Cadilek and Alex Cleppe were seeded fifth at No. 3 doubles. They lost their first match 6-3, 6-3.

In the match for fifth place, they defeated the duo from St. James, 6-4, 1-6, 10-8.
