It’s a ‘Daly Double’ winner

It was a double win for the Blue Earth Area cross country teams at the Maple River Invite held Thursday at Daly Park.

The Buc girls took home the first-place trophy for the fifth consecutive time with 40 points.

United South Central-Alden-Conger finished second with 63 points, followed by Medford (70), Madelia-Truman (74), Waterville-Elysian-Morris-town/Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton (141) to round out the top five.

The boys edged out Le Sueur/Henderson by six points to claim the team title. BEA tallied 57 points, while the Giants had 63. United South Central-Alden-Conger was next with 109, followed by Waterville-Elysian-Morristown/Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton (111) and Maple River (153).

Courtney Grandgenett led the Bucs in the varsity 4,000-meter race with a third-place medal time of 16:41.

Marissia Hagedorn’s time of 16:47 was good enough for a fourth-place medal and teammate Rylee Wagner also medaled with an eighth-place finish in 17:08.

Winning ribbons were LaNay Walker with an 11th-place time of 17:34 and Mandy Warmka in 15th place with 17:45.

Lindsey Ankeny rounded out the varsity finishers, completing the course in 18:23 to take 21st overall.

The boys also had three medal winners.

Jonas Hamperl was the first to complete the 5,000-meter course with a time of 18:26 to finish fourth.

Riley Holmseth was clocked in 18:46 to take eighth overall and Aaron Wilhelmi was 10th in 18:57.

Finishing 17th was Abi Vasquez in 19:26, just edging out teammate Jake Zebedee in 18th with the same time.

Jason Mertens was 41st with a time of 21:05 and Alvin Goraczkowski 53rd in 22:09.
