Maple River tops BEA in tennis action
The Maple River Eagles tennis team proved to have too much power on the court, as they overwhelmed the Blue Earth Area Buc-caneers 6-1 in tennis action last Tuesday night.
The Bucs lone victory came at No. 1 doubles. The senior duo of Jessica Skaare and Olivia Skaare cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win over the Eagles’ Josie Walters and Michaela Hislop.
BEA’s Mackenzie Lein and Autumn Drake lost at No. 2 doubles, 6-2, 6-4, to Claire Duncanson and Sarah Barteu of Maple River.
Blaire Zierke and Jordan Hanevik combined at No. 3 doubles and put up quite a battle against Maple River’s Amelia Malakowsky and Sam Proehl. The BEA duo lost in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5.
All four BEA singles players fell to Maple River.
At No. 1 singles, the Bucs’ Emily Slama suffered a rare loss, falling 6-3, 7-5 to the Eagles’ Mandi Stencel.
Slama was honored last week, being named the KEYC-TV, Mankato, Prep Athlete of the Week on Wednesday night.
Annika Johnson, at No. 2 singles, lost 6-1, 6-0 to Sara Anderson. At No. 3 singles Abby Nimz lost to Steph Smith 6-0, 6-0, and Mariah Garver was defeated by the same score at No. 4 singles by Tabitha Woitas.
The loss puts the Bucs season record at 4-9, with a 2-3 record in the South Central Conference.
