BEA 2nd at tourney
The Blue Earth Area volleyball team took second place in their own BEA Tournament held on Saturday, Oct. 3.
The Bucs won all three of their matches in pool play, propelling them into the championship match against Southwest Star Concept.
In the final match the Bucs fell 25-12, 25-19 to the Quasars.
Morgan Dickman led the team with a perfect 6 of 6 at the serving line, with two service points. She also had five set assists.
Sydney Ristau had four kills, and Jenny Smith added three. Smith also had five digs and an ace block.
Carly Hyland had six digs, and Kate Hassing and Katie Krieger each added an ace block.
Ashley Olson was 5 of 6 serving with two ace points.
On the way to the championship match, the Bucs defeated Medford (25-23, 25-20), United South Central (25-14, 25-16), and Minnesota Valley Lutheran (25-21, 25-22).
Hassing was the leader inthe match against Medford. She was 12 of 12 serving with nine points and three aces. She also had seven kills and an ace block.
Ristau and Smith each had five kills and Smith was 11 of 12 serving, eight points and an ace. Smith and Olson had 12 digs apiece. Olson also had 12 set assists and was 10 of 10 serving, six points and two aces.
Krieger had three ace blocks and Mariah Cooke added nine digs.
Against USC, Smith and Hassing each had five kills while Ristau added four. Smith also had 13 digs.
Olson had 13 set assists and four ace blocks. Ristau and Krieger each had two ace blocks.
Maddie McDonald was 8 of 8 serving with seven service points. Ristau was 9 of 10, six points and three aces. Smith was 8 of 9 and six points.
In the match against MVL, Smith had six kills and 15 digs.
Olson had four kills, seven set assists, eight digs and two kills.
Dickman was 15 of 15 at the line, with 11 service points. She also had seven set assists. Ristau was 8 of 8 serving with five points and an ace, as well as three ace blocks. Krieger also had three stops at the net.
The three wins and one loss in the tournament put the Bucs overall season record at 12-5, while remaining 7-0 in the South Central Conference.
Southwest Star Concept claimed the championship trophy, with BEA in second. Martin County West took third by defeating USC, which took fourth. That score was 25-15, 27-25.
NRHEG defeated MVL in the game deciding fifth and sixth place. Albert Lea won over Medford in the game deciding seventh and eighth place.
A B-squad tournament was held at the same time, with the Buccaneers claiming first place, SSC in second. MCW took third, USC fourth, Medford fifth, NRHEG sixth, MVL seventh and Albert Lea eighth.
