Gymnasts take 4th at invite
The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer gymnastics team took fourth place at their own invitational meet on Saturday, Dec. 12 in Winnebago.
The Bucs tallied 127.825 for the event. They had a 34.55 on the vault, 31.225 on the uneven bars, 29.975 on the balance beam and 32.075 on the floor exercise.
Martin County Area, which now includes Fairmont, won the meet with 139.90 points. They just edged out Jackson County Central which had 139.325 total points.
In third was Austin with 132.45, while in fifth place with 118.575 was Windom Area.
Leading the way for the Buccaneers was Julia Meyer, who was the only Buc to place in the top five in any event.
Meyer scored an 8.9 on the beam, good for second place in that event. She also had a 7.95 on the bars, 8.7 on the vault, and 7.625 on the floor. Her 33.175 was the tops in the all around competition for the Bucs.
Blaire Zierke was second in all around for the Buccaneers, with a 32.525. That included an 8.05 on the bars, 8.55 for the vault, 8.05 on the beam and a 7.875 for floor exercise.
Cassie Thompson scored an all around total of 31.425. She got the top score for the Bucs on the vault with an 8.75, and for floor, with an 8.45.
The vault continued to be the Bucs best event, with Christina Anderson also scoring well with an 8.55, and Marissia Hagedorn with 8.45.
Linnea Erickson of MCA took top all around honors with a 35.85, followed closely by her teammate Mattie Steen who had a 35.025, good for second place.
The Bucs next meet isn’t until Jan. 8 when they will host the St. Peter Saints in Winnebago.
BEA 131.325, Waseca-NRHEG 126.25
The Buccaneer gymnastics downed Waseca-NRHEG last Thursday, 131.325 to 126.25.
On the beam against Waseca, BEA’s Julia Meyer took second with 8.6, LaNay Walker was third with 8.225, Blaire Zierke was fourth with an 8.2 and Cassie Thompson was fifth with 7.75.
Thompson took a first on the vault with 9.125, while Meyer was second with 8.85 and Zierke third with 8.8.
Meyer was fourth on the beam with 8.15 and Christina Anderson took fifth with a score of 7.95.
On the floor exercise, Marissia Hagedorn took first with a score of 8.525, while Thompson was third at 8.35 and Meyer was fourth with an 8.0.
Meyer was second in all around with a 33.6, Thompson was third with 32.525 and Zierke fourth with 31.95.
