The Blue Earth Area boys basketball team opened South Central Conference play with a 70-50 victory over the visiting St. Peter Saints in a game played Dec. 18.

“I was pleased to see our offense do so well,” comments Buc mentor Gary Holmseth. “We scored transition baskets, from beyond the arc, and from the inside as well.”

Give the Bucs’ defense some credit, too. They held the Saints top scorer, Brodie Raymond, to only five first half points.

The Bucs built a 30-19 half time lead with Nate Carr and Nick Lee taking turns guarding the 6-foot-1 senior guard.

Sophomore Brady Anderson opened the game with a base line drive for a basket, helping BEA sprint to a 9-2 lead.

The Saints battled back, closing the gap to one point at 9-8.

The Bucs used treys by Nick Lee and Riley Holmseth and a Jared Smith put-back basket to go on an 8-2 run, putting the hosts up 17-10.
