The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer girls basketball team stunned the previously unbeaten Canby Lancers, 51-46 on Wednesday night for the championship of the St. Clair Girls Basketball Holiday Tournament.

The game was tied at 22-22 at the half, but BEA scored 29 in the second half, while Canby scored 24.

The key to the game came at the free throw line, with the Bucs making 18 of 22 attempts.

Ashley Olson led BEA in scoring with 20 points. Kate Hassing added 10.

The Lancers outstanding sophomore, Riley Nordgaard, scored 20 points, which put her over 1,000 in her young career.

The Bucs defense played well, holding the Lancers to an unusually low scoring total.

BEA had gained a spot in the championship game with wins over USC on Monday, and NRHEG on Tuesday.

The Bucs, now 7-3 on the year, host the St. James Saints on Thursday.

St. Clair defeated NRHEG in a close game, 58-57, for third place.

Nicollet downed MVL 49-46 for fifth place, and USC routed Montgomery-Lonsdale 59-30 for seventh place. Val Sahr scored 17 points, and Katie Overbo 11 to pace USC.
