By Staff | Jan 17, 2010

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer boys basketball team pulled out a big win in Waseca last Monday night.

The Bucs downed the Bluejays in a tight contest, 52-48. The win boosted the Bucs season record to 7-2 overall, 2-1 in the South Central Conference.

The Bucs leading scorer so far this season, Nick Lee, got his second foul just two and a half minutes into the contest.

Lee sat on the bench for several minutes, then re-entered the game and got his third foul within 15 seconds.

“I’m very proud of the team’s effort with our leading scorer playing a total of just three minutes in the first half,” Buc head coach Gary Holmseth says.

Nate Carr continued his stepped up play and was the leading Buccaneer scorer with 17 points. He also grabbed six rebounds and had seven steals.

Despite not seeing much action in the first half, Lee still was the second leading scorer with nine points, including a 5 for 6 performance from the free throw line.

The Anderson boys, Garrett and Brady, each scored eight points in the Buc’s effort. Garrett Anderson also led in rebounds with eight boards.

As a team the Bucs were 14 of 38 from two-point range, and 3 of 14 from beyond the arc. They also made 15 of 29 free throw attempts.

Waseca hit 16 of 45 two-point floor shots, and 4 of 10 three-pointers. They were 4 of 8 at the charity stripe.

The Bluejays out-rebounded the Bucs 36-26. However, they had 19 turnovers to the Buccaneers seven, and only two steals to BEA’s 12.

The Bucs play at Belle Plaine on Monday night, then travel to Fairmont on Friday.
