The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer girls basketball team put on an offensive and defensive show last Monday night, defeating the Mavericks of Martin County West 54-25 on the Bucs home court.

The Bucs jumped out to an early 15-4 lead, using an aggressive defense and making many of their shots on offense. Meanwhile, the Mavericks missed a lot of scoring opportunities in the first half.

At the half, BEA led 21-9. They continued to dominate MCW in the second half, limiting them to just 16 points, while exploding for 33 more of their own.

Ashley Olson was the leading scorer for the Bucs, netting 15 points. That included four 3-pointers out of nine attempts. Camille Driscoll added 10 points, including two more treys.

In all, the Bucs made 15 of 30 two-point shots, and 6 of 14 three-pointers. They were also 6 of 9 from the free throw line.

MCW was a perfect 3 of 3 from the charity stripe, but were just 11 of 33 from the floor. They did not attempt a 3-point shot.

In all, 11 of the Bucs’ 14 players scored at least one point.

BEA led in most of the game stats, including rebounding, 20-19; steals, 10-3; and assists, 11-7.

Sydney Ristau led in rebounding for the Bucs with four, while Olivia Skaare grabbed three boards.

Alicia Rorman had seven assists, while Sara Warmka and Olson each had three steals.

The win upped the Bucs season record to 8-3, while they are 2-1 in the South Central Conference. MCW fell to 3-7, 1-4.

The Bucs will host Southwest Star Concept on Tuesday this week, and travel to Fairmont on Friday.
