Bucs slip past Giants
The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers boys basketball team jumped out to an early 19-6 lead, then hung on to defeat the Le Sueur-Henderson Giants 62-58 on Saturday, Jan. 9.
The Bucs stayed ahead all game, but the Giants kept it close at several points, including cutting the lead to one with just a few minutes left in the game.
BEA was up by six, 31-25, at the half.
Four Buccaneers made it into double figures in the scoring column.
Garrett Anderson led the way with a double double – 18 points and 19 rebounds.
As a team, the Bucs had an incredible 40 rebounds to the Giants 24.
Riley Holmseth added 15 points. His shooting percentage reflects his hot hand. He shot 67 percent from two-point range (2 of 3), 50 percent from three-point range (2 of 4) and 83 percent from the free throw line (5 of 6). He also had four steals.
Nate Carr added 11 points and six rebounds. Nick Lee scored 10 points and had eight rebounds and four steals.
A huge difference in the game, besides the rebounding edge, came at the charity stripe. The Buccaneers made 22 of their 40 attempts, while the Giants went to the line only 10 times and made five of them.
LSH committed 28 fouls to BEA’s 16.
The Bucs record went to 6-2 with the victory.
