Gymnasts crush Cobras
The Blue Earth Area gymnastics team took the top spot in every event on their way to a 132.40 to 121.675 win over Windom Area last Monday night.
The Buccaneers’ biggest domination came in the uneven bars competition, where they took all five top spots.
Julia Meyer led the way on the bars with an 8.70. Blaire Zierke was second with 8.25, Cassie Thompson third with 8.05, Christina Anderson fourth with 8.025 and LaNay Walker fifth with 7.80.
Walker was back in action after an injury earlier in the season kept her out of action. However, the Bucs lost another team member on Monday.
Anderson, who also tied for fourth on the vault, was injured during her routine on the beam. She was taken by ambulance to UHD hospital with a neck injury.
It was Zierke who took the top honors in all-around scoring with a 34.575. She scored a 9.0 on the floor exercise (first place), 8.60 on the beam (first place) and 8.725 on the vault (second place) besides her score on the bars.
Meyer was in second place in all-around with 33.425. She had an 8.90 on the floor (second place), 7.2 on the beam (tie for third), and an 8.625 on the vault (tie for fourth) besides her first place on the bars.
Thompson was third in all-around with a score of 32.125. She had a huge score of 9.225 on the vault, placing her easily in first place in that event. Thompson also had an 8.10 on the floor, and a 6.75 on the beam.
Marissia Hagedorn scored an 8.7 on the vault putting her in third place for that event. She also had an 8.55 on the floor exercise, also good for third place.
Lauren Thompson also picked up a fifth place on the floor for the Bucs, with an 8.30.
The Windom Area Cobras’ best event was the beam, where they picked up a second, third place tie, and fifth place finish.
Although Windom’s team name is the Eagles in most sports, in gymnastics and wrestling they pair with Mountain Lake and are known as the Cobras.
Next up for the BEA squad is the South Central Conference Meet on Friday.
