Bucs lose heartbreaker

Less than one point.

That was the difference between victory and defeat for the Blue Earth Area Buccaneer gymnastics team on Feb. 5 in Mankato.

The Bucs scored 133.375 points. However, the Cougars of Mankato East tallied a 133.675 to win the meet.

The meet had been rescheduled from earlier dates due to the weather.

The Bucs were led by Julia Meyer who was tops in the all-around scoring with a 35.350.

Meyer grabbed a first place on the balance beam with a 9.25.

She was second in the floor exercise with an 8.825. She was also second on the uneven parallel bars with a score of 8.4. Meyer was third on the vault with an 8.875.

Cassie Thompson also had a first place finish for the Bucs, on the vault. She scored a 9.125. Thompson was also fifth in all-around with 32.875 and sixth on the bars with a 7.850.

Blaire Zierke placed third on the bars with 8.125, and fifth on the vault with 8.775.

Marissia Hagedorn grabbed a fourth place finish on the balance beam with a 7.850.

This week the Bucs enter post-season play at the Section meet in Glencoe on Friday.
