The Class A Section 2, South Sub-Section game, pitting the No. 1-seeded Blue Earth Area Buccaneers against the No. 4-seeded Eagles of Maple River, promised to be a good one.
After all, the Eagles had defeated the Bucs by 10 points just a week before. Maple River had also already knocked off the No. 3-seed Rebels of USC.
The game lived up to its pre-game hype, proving to be a hard-fought, low scoring affair.
But, when the dust settled in the Blue Earth Area High School gym on Friday, March 5, the Bucs had pulled out a 41-35 victory over the Eagles.
The win put the Buccaneers into the Sub-Section championship game against Hayfield, held last Monday night.
The Bucs started the game off strong against the Eagles, jumping out to an early 7-0 lead behind two Ashley Olson 3-pointers.
BEA led the whole first half, right up until the final minute.
