Buc netters win season opener
The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer boys tennis team got off on the right foot as they won their season opener last Thursday night.
BEA downed Redwood Valley 4-3 in a match in Redwood Falls.
The Bucs pulled out three wins in singles and one in doubles play to notch the victory.
Riley Holmseth took down Nick Schmidt at No. 1 singles by scores of 6-3, 6-2.
At No. 2 singles, Aaron Wilhelmi defeated Javel Aventson 6-1, 6-1. Wade Wilhelmi won by the same score, 6-1, 6-1 over David Houghton at No. 3 singles.
Daniel Eckhardt lost at No. 4 singles by scores of 7-5, 6-3 to Taylor Rebstock.
The Bucs No. 2 doubles team of Hans Kittleson and Alex Cleppe got BEA’s other win, defeating Ben Schmidt and Drew Carey, 6-2, 6-0.
At No. 1 doubles, the Bucs’ Colan Surratt and Hunter Myers fell 6-4, 6-3 to Nick Hansen and Patrick Reichleitz. The No. 3 doubles team of Eric Purvis and Brett Duit lost in a three set match to Jesse Leith and Dominic Sweetman. The Bucs duo won the first set 6-0, but fell 6-4, 6-3 in the next two.
BEA’s has a busy week this week with three home matches. They will host Albert Lea here on Monday, Austin on Tuesday, and face Luverne on Friday on the Bucs’ home courts.
