The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer softball team started the 2010 season with a loss when they dropped the opener 2-0 to the Belle Plaine Tigers.

The game was played in Belle Plaine on Monday, April 5.

Maddie McDonald took the loss for the Bucs.

“Maddie pitched well for us,” Coach Bob Hanson says. “We just didn’t produce any runs.”

McDonald gave up four hits, three of them in the fourth inning, which is when Belle Plaine scored their two runs.

She also walked just three, and struck out four.

“Maddie had a couple of fine defensive plays behind her to back up her good pitching,” Hanson says.

Sophomore Macy Henningsen led the Bucs at the plate with two hits – a single and a double.

BEA’s next game was slated to be the following day, Tuesday, April 6, against New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva, but it was rained out.

The game was postponed to Monday, April 12, at New Richland.
