Boys take 1st at Maple River

The Buc boys track and field team won their first team title Tuesday at the Maple River Invite in Mapleton.

BEA finished in first-place with 143 points, edging out United South Central/Alden-Conger (128).

Nick Lee displayed a combination of speed and strength.

The Buc senior won a gold medal in the 100-meter dash in 11.73 seconds and was first in the shot put with a toss of 47 feet, while senior Taylor Andrews took bronze in the shot with a distance of 43 feet, 5 1/2 inches.

Lee added a silver medal with a distance of 116 feet, 9 1/2 inches in the discus competition.

Zach Tvedten’s time of 11.83 seconds was good enough for a bronze medal in the 100.

Standout Nate Carr had another big day, taking first in the 110-meter high hurdles (15.63) and 300-meter intermediates (40.58).

Carr also claimed a fourth-place ribbon in the high jump, clearing the bar at 5 feet, 6 inches and Isaac Darrington finished with a sixth-place ribbon height of 5-4.

In the pole vault, Jake Zebedee soared 12 feet to grab first-place and Zach Tvedten was in third place with 10-6. Santos Flores took the fourth-place ribbon by clearing 10-0. Flores again took fourth-place, this time in the long jump with a mark of 17 feet, 4 1/2 inches. Tvedten earned a fifth-place ribbon with a leap of 17 1/4.

Daniel Plocker won silver in the triple jump with a distance of 36 feet, 7 1/2 inches.

Three relays turned in gold-medal performances.

The foursome of Tvedten, Daniel Plocker, Darrington and Nick Lee passed the baton in 46.39 seconds in the 4 x 100.

Nick Beattie (26.5), Darrington (23.8), Taylor Olson (26.2) and JT Roe (23.8) teamed up for a winning time of 1:40.36 in the 4 x 200.

The 4 x 400 quartet of Jake Zebedee (54.3), Jonas Hamperl (54.1), Daniel Plocker (56.7) and Nate Carr (51.1) took first place in 3:36.08.

In the distance races, Hamperl took first place in the 800-meter run in 2:07.21 and Micah Zastrow was clocked in 5:10.74 for a fifth-place ribbon in the 1,600-meter run.
