Baseball team drops 3

The Buccaneer baseball team had trouble containing the Class AA No. 9-ranked Fairmont Cardinals last Tuesday in Fairmont.

The Blue Earth Area nine lost 12-2 to the Cards. In an earlier season game played in Blue Earth, the Bucs had kept it closer, losing 2-0.

Fairmont got five runs in the second inning, and added two in the third and three in the fourth for a commanding 10-0 advantage.

The Bucs ended a shutout try by getting runs in both the fifth and sixth innings.

Taylor Owen hit a double in the fifth, coming home on errors after Joe Franta hit a grounder.

BEA pitcher Connor Hanson saw some relief pitching duties against the Class AA No.9-ranked Fairmont Cardinals on May.

Collin Nienhaus reached on an error in the sixth, and later scored the Bucs other run.

Owen was the losing pitcher, giving up five runs on three hits in 1 2/3 innings.

The game ended in the bottom of the sixth when Fairmont scored a run to go up by 10.

MCW 9, BEA 5

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers suffered a loss in Welcome on Friday, April 30, when they fell 9-5 to Martin County West.

The Bucs fell behind 1-0 in the second inning, but came back to tie it up at 1-1 in the fourth inning.

MCW scored three runs in the fifth and five in the sixth to take a big lead.

The Buccaneers tacked on two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings, but could not overcome the deficit.

Josh Amundson and Garrett Anderson were both 2 for 3 in the game. Jonah Pirsig was 2 for 4.

Collin Nienhaus got just one hit, but it was a double. The Bucs had nine hits total.

Brady Anderson pitched 4 1/3 innings and gave up five runs on seven hits. He struck out four and walked three.

Pirsig, Connor Hanson and Jared Smith all pitched in relief, giving up the other four runs on just two hits but added five walks.

New Ulm 7, BEA 6

The Bucs baseball team lost a heartbreaker 7-6 to the New Ulm Eagles on Thursday, April 29.

The Bucs were on the scoreboard first, taking a 1-0 lead after the first inning. New Ulm scored two in the fourth to take a one run lead.

The game was tied 4-4 at the end of seven innings. Both teams scored two more runs in the eighth, leaving it tied again, 6-6.

New Ulm scored a run in the ninth inning to win the game 7-6. The Bucs try at tying the game in the bottom half of the ninth ended with three strikeouts.

The Bucs outhit the Eagles 12-7 in the game.

Josh Amundson, Joe Franta and Connor Hanson were all 2 for 4, while Collin Nienhaus was 2 for 5.

Garrett Anderson pitched six innings, giving up four runs on four hits. He struck out 10 batters but walked nine.

Connor Hanson came in for three innings and picked up the loss. He gave up three runs on three hits, no strikeouts and two walks.
