Girl golfers lose two meets
The Buccaneer girls golf team ran into some stiff competition last Tuesday evening when they traveled to tee it up against the Mankato West Scarlets.
The Bucs lost 362-393.
“We lost to a very good team today,” Head Coach Al Cue comments. “Mankato West has a chance to win the Big 9 Conference.”
The Bucs were led by Jessica Skaare, who shot an 84 for the 18 hole meet.
“Jessica had a very nice score of 84,” Cue says. “She didn’t putt particularly well, so she could have done even better.”
Morgan Dickman came in under 100 with a 98.
Autumn Drake added a 105 and Tessa Huber a 106 to round out the scoring for the Buc team.
The other varsity score for BEA was a 108 by Olivia Skaare.
“Our team score still needs to come down if we hope to advance beyond the Sub-section,” Cue adds. “But at least this meet was a step in the right direction.”
That Sub-section meet is scheduled for Tuesday of this week.
JCC 193, BEA 210
The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer girls golf team couldn’t get under 200 for a team nine-hole meet score, and lost to the Jackson County Central Huskies.
The scores at the Friday, May 14 meet were BEA 210, JCC 193.
“This was not a very good score for us at this time of the season,” Buc mentor Al Cue says. “But the course was a par 38 and the greens were lightening quick. Some of the girls struggled a bit.”
Leading the way for the Bucs was Morgan Dickman, shooting a nine-hole score of 48. Right behind was Tessa Huber with 49.
Jessica Skaare came in with a 53. Autumn Drake and Sam Hogstad each shot identical rounds of 60, with one counting towards the Bucs team total.
The other varsity score was a 63 from Mackenzie Lein.
“We were without Olivia Skaare, due to illness, so that hurt us some,” Cue says. “Hopefully things will turn around soon for the tournaments.”
The Bucs play in Sub-Section play on Tuesday this week.
