Two True Thirds
The Blue Earth Area Bucs came home from the Class A State True Team Track Championship with a pair of third-place finishes.
The meet, held Saturday, May 22, in Stillwater, featured a two and a half hour delay due to a thunderstorm that rolled through the area.
The boys, making their first appearance since 2006, finished with 352.5 points. Pipestone Area, the wild-card team, claimed the title with 387.5 points.
Meanwhile, the Buc girls were making their fifth straight trip to the championship and were the defending champions. Luverne, with 428 points, won this year with the Bucs final point total coming in at 397.
In their last five trips to the state the Bucs have always finished in the top five, but never in the same place. Starting with the year 2006 they have finished fourth, fifth, second, first, and third.
Kate Hassing and Marissia Hagedorn each won an individual championship for the girls. Hassing’s triple jump of 34 feet 4 and 1/4 inches was good for first place and Hagedorn ran the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 15.79 to cross the finish line ahead of the competition. Hagedorn also captured second place in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 10 feet six inches.
Three BEA boys came home with first place finishes. Nate Carr won the 300 hurdles in 40.13. A vault of 12 feet 6 inches gave Jake Zebedee first place in the pole vault. The 4×100 relay team of Zach Tvedten, Daniel Plocker, Isaac Darrington, and Nick Lee crossed the finish line first with a time of 45.89.
The boys also garnered a pair of second place finishes with Carr taking the runner-up spot in the 110-hurdles in 16.42 and Nick Lee earning second place in the shot put with a toss of 46 feet 7 and 1/2 inches.
