Wilhelmi 2nd at SCC; team eliminated
The Buccaneers’ Wade Wilhelmi took second at No. 3 singles at the South Central Conference Meet on Saturday, May 22.
Wilhelmi had been given the top seed and won his first match 7-5, 6-7 (6), 7-6 (5) over Matt Jurgens of St. James.
In the championship match, he lost to the No. 2 seed, Mike Huber of St. Peter, 6-4, 6-4.
At No. 1 singles, Buccaneer Aaron Wilhelmi took fourth. He won his first match over Ryan Priebe of Waseca, 6-1, 6-0.
He lost his second match 6-0, 6-1 to Patrick Flor of Waseca, then lost the third place match to Charlie Kolstad of St. James, 6-3, 6-4.
Riley Holmseth was third at No. 2 singles, downing Michael Huber of New Ulm 6-2, 6-3.
He lost his next match 6-2, 6-5. Holmseth rebounded for the third place medal by beating Barry Gullickson of Waseca, 6-2, 6-0.
No. 4 singles player Brett Duit lost his first match 6-3, 7-6 (6), and his second match 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles action, the Buc No. 1 team of Colan Surratt and Hans Kittleson lost their first match 2-6, 7-5, 12-10 to Sam Peterson and Ben Kallas of St. Peter.
They rebounded, however, and defeated Landon Hager and Cody Nelson of New Ulm 6-4, 6-3 to claim fifth place.
No. 2 doubles team Alex Cleppe and Daniel Eckhardt also took fifth place.
They lost 6-3, 6-2 to Marty Johnson and Ben Gault of St. Peter, but bounced back and defeated Chris DeWang and Doug Jones of New Ulm 4-6, 6-2, 10-5.
Eric Purvis and Hunter Myers won their opening match 6-3, 5-7, 10-5 over New Ulm’s Zach Jensen and Isaiah Johnson.
However, they lost 6-1, 6-1 in their next match, and fell 6-0, 6-1 to Jorge Royas and Alex Nadeau of St. Peter in the third place match.
