It’s one and done
The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer baseball team was one and out in the Class 3AA Section baseball tournament.
The Bucs fell 7-1 to Luverne on Saturday, May 29 in New Ulm.
The loss ended BEA’s season with the Bucs compiling a 9-11 overall record.
Both teams got on the scoreboard with one run in the third inning.
BEA scored after Dalton Hurn led off with a single. He was advanced with a sacrifice bunt by Collin Nienhaus, then a sacrifice fly by Garrett Anderson.
While the Buccaneer scoring was over, the Cardinals came up with another run in the fourth, three in the fifth and two in the sixth inning.
The Bucs actually out hit the Cards 7-6. Carter Hanson was 2 for 3 at the plate to lead BEA.
Anderson took the loss, going four innings, giving up five runs on four hits. He struck out six and walked seven.
Jonah Pirsig went two innings and gave up two runs on two hits and struck out two.
Connor Hanson pitched the final inning.
For the season, Anderson led the Bucs in pitching. He threw for 42 innings in seven games, and compiled a 1.83 ERA. He struck out 78 and walked 40 batters.
Taylor Owen pitched 26 innings and had a 5.65 ERA. Hanson had a 3.60 ERA in the 25.3 innings he pitched.
Anderson was also one of the leaders at the plate with 26 hits, one home run and a .441 batting average. Josh Amundson had a .339 average and 20 hits including two home runs. Collin Nienhaus had 17 hits and a .258 average.
