Although they played singles most of the year, the brother tandem of Aaron and Wade Wilhelmi teamed up to play doubles in the Section 2A Tennis Meet in St. James last week.

The pair was seeded No. 2 and represented Blue Earth Area’s best chance at advancing to the State Meet.

The two fell just short of that goal, ending up in fourth place at the Section Meet.

After their opening round bye, the Wilhelmi brothers faced Scott Mueller and Matt Tucholke of St. James and won 7-6 (5), 4-6, 7-6 (5).

The Buccaneer duo lost their next match, 6-2, 6-2 to the No. 3 seed – and eventual Section champions – Gault and Huber from St. Peter.

That dropped the Wilhelmi brothers into the consolation bracket. They won their next match 6-2, 7-6 over Paul Miller and Luke Sandersfeld of Fairmont, the No. 5 seed.

With the win, the BEA twosome were in the match for the third place medal against the No. 1 seeded team of Kolstad and Jacoby from St. James.

The Wilhelmi brothers lost the match 7-6, 6-4 in a close battle. That put them into fourth place.

The Buc duo of Colan Surratt and Riley Holmseth had the No. 8 seed. They lost their first match 7-5, 6-3 to Sebastian Malewicz and Connor Debargyi of Minneapolis Washburn.

In singles action at the Section, Buccaneer Hans Kittleson lost his opening match 7-5, 6-4 to Erik Elton of Holy Family.

Alex Cleppe of BEA lost his opening match 6-1, 6-0 to Matt Jurgens of St. James.
