Skaare close to state trip

Despite having five girls qualify for the Section 2A Golf Meet, the Blue Earth Area Buccaneers failed to have any of them advance on to the State Meet.

One, however, came very close – within one stroke.

Senior Jessica Skaare shot a 93 (47-46). The individual cut-off was 92. Skaare made it to the State Meet last year as a junior.

The Section Meet was held at the Valley View Golf Course in Belle Plaine on Friday, June 4.

“The girls represented BEA very well,” Coach Al Cue says. “Even though we had not qualified as a team, if we had, our team score would have been good for second place.”

Cue says the course was playing very tough that day, and no girls were able to break 90.

“Overall, our girls didn’t putt very well, and this cost them,” the coach says.

Autumn Drake carded the Bucs second lowest score, with a 96 (53-43).

“Autumn struggled on the first nine, but had a great score of 43 on the back nine,” Cue says. “Olivia Skaare was steady all day.”

Skaare shot a 99 (51-48).

Tessa Huber came in with a 102 (50-52) and Morgan Dickman shot a 114 (57-57).

“Tessa fought her way through shoulder pain to shoot a respectable score,” the Bucs mentor says. “Morgan also struggled a bit, but battled her way through it.”

Mankato East advanced to the State Meet as the Section 2A team representative.

Cue had lots of praise to hand out for this year’s Buccaneer squad.

“This was a fun group to work with,” he comments. “They always gave their best effort and showed a lot of honesty and integrity on the course.”
