The Section 2A Track Meet was held last Saturday, June 5, at Mankato West High School and two Buccaneers athletes earned a trip to the State Track Meet.

Marissia Hagedorn set a new Buccaneer record in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 10 feet, 7 inches to take first place. Nate Carr qualified in two events, finishing second in both the 110-meter high hurdles and the 300-meter intermediate hurdles.

To move on to the state track meet athletes have to finish first in a relay event, first or second in an individual event or meet the state qualifying standard.

Hagedorn narrowly missed qualifying for the state in the 100-meter high hurdles. She clocked a time of 16.13 seconds which put her in fourth place. The state standard was 16.12 seconds so she missed qualifying by .01 seconds.

Seniors Mandy Warmka, Meghan Mittelstadt and Kate Hassing all concluded their careers with fine efforts.

Warmka joined three underclassmen to run the 4 x 800 relay. Mittelstadt ran the opening leg of the 4 x 100 relay as they raced to a fifth place finish and a medal.

Hassing finished third in the triple jump with a leap of 35 feet, 1/2 inch – just 3/4 of an inch short of second place. She ran a sub-60 in the 400-meter dash, which was good for fifth place, but was 4/10 of a second short of the the state qualifying standard. She then anchored the 4 x 400 meter relay team and rallied them from fifth place to second place – but fell short of attaining the state qualifying standard.

Rylee Wagner ran a personal best 61.63 seconds in the 400-meter dash to finish seventh. Courtney Grandgenett gained a medal with a third place finish in the 1,600-meter run, with a time of 5:37.99.

Sydney Ristau and Katie Krieger both qualified for the finals in the shot put. Ristau’s throw of 36 feet, 1 3/4 inches gave her a medal with a fifth place finish. Krieger uncorked a personal best throw of 35 feet, 6 1/2 inches to place seventh.

The boys had their narrow misses at state trips as well. Nick Lee missed qualifying in the shot put by less than two inches as he threw a personal best 48 feet, 8 3/4 inches. Jonas Hamperl was nosed out at the finish line to take third place in the 800-meter run. Isaac Darrington recorded a personal best in the high jump of 6 feet to take fifth place and Jake Zebedee’s vault of 12 feet, 3 inches was good for fourth place in the pole vault.
