BEA netters drop 3 at tourney
The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer tennis team dropped three matches on Friday, Aug. 27, when they participated in a tournament at Le Sueur-Henderson.
BEA fell 5-2 to Maple River, 6-1 to Holy Family, and 4-3 to Le Sueur-Henderson.
Maple River 5, BEA 2
The Bucs got their two wins at No. 2 and 3 doubles.
The eighth grade duo of Karleigh Wolff and Kaitlyn Olsen defeated the Eagles’ Sam Bamert and Brittany Groskreutz 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.
Buccaneer Aeli Olson, a sophomore, teamed with seventh-grader Annika Wilhelmi and defeated Hannah Proehl and Megan Langworthy in a three match set, 4-6, 6-1, 10-4.
Maple River’s Brittany Nase and Erin Hislop defeated BEA’s senior team of Jordan Hanevik and Blaire Zierke by a score of 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles.
The Eagles won all four singles matches.
Becca Hager downed Abby Nimz at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-3.
At No. 2 singles, the Eagles’ Josie Walters won 6-1, 6-0 over the Bucs’ Autumn Drake. Michaela Hislop won 6-1, 6-1 over Lindsey Prokop at No. 3 singles.
At No. 4 singles it was Maple River’s Sarah Bartell, a senior, over BEA’s Makeila Shortenhaus, an eighth grader, 6-0, 6-1.
Holy Family 6, BEA 1
The Bucs one and only win in this match came from Lindsey Prokop, a freshman, playing at No. 3 singles.
She defeated sophomore Meaghan Moakley 6-3, 6-2.
The Bucs’ Abby Nimz lost at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-1. At No. 2 singles, Autumn Drake fell 6-1, 6-0. Makeila Shortenhaus lost 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.At No. 1 doubles, Jordan Hanevik and Blaire Zierke were defeated 6-0, 6-1. Karleigh Wolff and Kaitlyn Olsen lost 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles. Aeli Olson and Annika Wilhelmi lost 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.
LSH 4, BEA 3
The Bucs won three of the four singles matches against Le Sueur-Henderson, but they couldn’t pull out any from the doubles ranks, and lost a close battle, 4-3.
Playing at No. 1 singles, Abby Nimz got things going for the Bucs with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Sherene Mostaghimi.
At No. 2 singles, the Bucs Autumn Drake lost 6-3, 6-4, to Cecilia Herndez.
Lindsey Prokop got a win at No. 3 singles, downing Libby McCoy 6-3. 6-4. At No. 4 singles, Makeila Shortenhaus defeated the Giants’ Sara Mootz 6-1, 6-2.
In doubles, Jordan Hanevik and Blaire Zierke lost 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles to Jacq Tousley and Liz Weiers.
Karleigh Wolff and Kaitlyn Olsen lost at No. 2 doubles to Kirsten Shaugenessy and Callie Boelter by scores of 6-3, 6-2. At No. 3 doubles, Aeli Olson and Annika Wilhelmi lost 6-1, 6-3 to Elle Hames and Tor Sinell.
The three losses put the Bucs season record at 2-4.
