Windom sweeps past volleyball team

By Staff | Nov 1, 2010

It wasn’t a pretty way to end the regular season.

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer volleyball team was swept in three games last Monday night when they hosted the Windom Eagles.

Scores were 25-19, 25-23, 25-13.

BEA had trouble getting started in game one, and quickly fell behind 6-0. After the score reached 13-4, the Bucs tried to mount a comeback, but fell short.

They rallied to within four at 21-17, but couldn’t get over the hump, and lost 25-19.

Game two was much closer all the way.

The score was tied at least six times, from early on at 3-3, to the middle of the match at 15-15, and near the end when the Buccaneers rallied again, this time from a 19-14 deficit and tied the game at 19-all.

It continued to stay close, and was tied again at 20-20 and then 21-21.

But, it was the Eagles who put on the hits and the game ended with BEA losing by two, 25-23.

Game three started out close, tied at 3-3, but quickly got out of hand when Windom built up a 12-5 lead.

It was never close after that, with the Eagles gaining a double digit lead at 20-10, then finishing the game and the match with a 25-13 win.

The loss dropped the Bucs to a 19-8 record for the regular season. They ended 8-2 in South Central Conference play.

Sydney Ristau was the kill leader against Windom, with five of the big hits.

Jenny Smith added four kills, as well as leading in digs with nine, and serving – going 14 of 14 from the line and eight points.

Anne Marie Hoyt also had four kills, and also was perfect at the service line, going 12 of 12 with six points.

Ashley Olson had 15 set assists and five digs, while Katie Krieger had two ace blocks.
