Olson, Ristau and Smith were picked for the South Central Conference all-conference team, and Hoyt and Hassing earned honorable mention.

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer volleyball team had five of their team members named to the South Central Conference all-conference and honorable mention lists.

Named all-conference are Ashley Olson, Sydney Ristau and Jenny Smith. On the honorable mention list for the conference are Annemarie Hoyt and Krista Hassing.

Ashley Olson

Olson, a senior, was the Bucs’ setter. She spent her freshman year as the Libero, was injured in her sophomore year, and was a combination setter/hitter last season.

Olson had 645 set assists this past season, with 277 in conference play. In her career she has 945, which puts her No. 5 on the Bucs’ top 10 list.

She also had 218 digs in 2010, with 95 coming in conference action. She has 829 overall, which again puts her at No. 5 on the Bucs’ top 10 list.

The Buc setter also had 37 aces, 26 blocks and 59 kills this year. Overall she has 57 aces, 56 blocks and 190 kills in her BEA career.

“Ashley is a very versatile athlete with the ability to play any position on the court, and do it very well,” says Buc head coach Donna Nawrocki. “She is a great competitor who had a great career, and her leadership will be missed on the court.”

Sydney Ristau

Ristau, also a senior, spent two years as a middle hitter, before shifting to become a dominant right-side hitter this past year.

She had 183 kills, with 77 coming in conference play. Overall she has 452 kills, good for the No. 9 spot on the top 10 list.

She is No. 10 on the Buc all time blocks list, with 113. She had 35 this season, 18 in the conference.

She also had 32 ace serves this season, and 59 in her career.

“Sydney played three years on the varsity,” Coach Nawrocki says. “She went hard every day and every game – a true passion for the game, and a joy to coach.”

Jenny Smith

Smith is a junior and is racking up the stats for the Bucs.

She had 257 digs this season, 125 in conference action. She has 980 digs in her career – and will continue to add to that top 10 list number next season.

Smith also had 180 kills (86 in SCC games), 32 ace serves (19 in SCC), and 16 blocks (five in SCC).

“Jenny continues to give us consistent court play from her outside hitter position,” Nawrocki says. “She had another good year for her team, and we will look to see more from her in 2011.”

Annemarie Hoyt

The Buc junior was named to the honorable mention list.

Hoyt had 204 digs (94 in the SCC), 136 kills (59 in SCC), 37 ace serves and seven blocks.

“Annemarie played outside hitter for us in her first year on the varsity,” Coach Nawrocki says. “She helped to give us balanced hitting and defense, while also having an aggressive serve. We will look for more good things from Annemarie next year.”

Krista Hassing

Hassing, a sophomore, was tabbed to be on this year’s honorable mention list.

“Krista was a nice addition to our front row, both on defense and offense,” Nawrocki points out. “She played middle hitter for us, but also did an excellent job of defending our side of the court.”

Hassing had 79 blocks, which is No. 5 on the BEA top 10 block total for one season. She had 29 blocks in conference action.

She also had 195 digs (106 in SCC games), 124 kills (49 in SCC), and 27 ace serves (11 in SCC).

“Krista is a versatile player with a great future ahead of her,” Nawrocki adds.
