Although they had their moments, the Blue Earth Area Buccaneers started off the 2010-2011 season with a pair of losses.

On Saturday, Dec. 4, the Bucs traveled north to Jordan and took on the Jordan Hubmen for their season opener.

The Bucs fell in a hard-fought battle, 52-43.

It was a similar scenario for their home opener, when they hosted the Tigers of Belle Plaine last Tuesday night.

BEA lost 55-44.

Brady Anderson

The Buccaneers fell behind early, trailing 14-5 with 11 minutes left in the first half. They came alive at that point, and six minutes later had tied the game at 18-all.

A Brady Anderson free throw gave BEA its first lead of the game at 23-22.

Anderson tallied a bucket, and Sam Lee added two more to give the Bucs their largest lead of the night, 27-22.

It was short-lived.

Belle Plaine countered with a 3-pointer and a pair of free-throws to tie the game at 27-27 at the half time buzzer.

BEA never was able to regain the lead in the second half. They did, however, manage to keep it tight throughout the last stanza.

Trailing by eight at 43-34 – after the Tigers made a traditional 3-point play – the Bucs got serious.

Anderson hit a basket, followed by two by Owen, and suddenly BEA was back in the game, behind by only three at 43-40.

A basket by Riley Holmseth made the score 49-44 with just over three minutes left in the game.

But, the Bucs couldn’t get another point, and the final was 55-44.

Anderson led the team with 14 points, while Owen added 10 and Lee nine.

Owen also had 15 rebounds for the Bucs.

The Bucs had two 3-pointers, by Dallas Barslou and Daniel Plocker. BEA hit 10 of 16 free throws, and were 16 of 53 from the floor.

Belle Plaine was led by Miah Fogarty with 17 points.

The Bucs, now 0-2 on the season, host Waseca on Friday, and Kasson-Mantorville on Saturday this week.
