Boys win on the road, 50-47
Down by six at the half, the Blue Earth Area Buccaneers had to regroup to pull out a close 50-47 win over the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva (NRHEG) Cardinals in an away game on Friday, Dec. 10.
The Bucs outscored the Cards 29-20 in the second half for the win.
BEA nailed three of its four 3-pointers in the second stanza, two of them by Riley Holmseth.
But, it was Sam Lee who led the charge, getting 10 of his 18 team-leading points in the final stanza.
Lee also grabbed six rebounds.
Three Bucs tossed in seven points apiece – Holmseth, Connor Hanson and Taylor Owen. Owen was the leading rebounder, grabbing nine. Brady Anderson had just five points but led with six assists and added four rebounds.
The Cards’ Matt Carlson was leading scorer in the game, with 22 points.
NRHEG actually led in many statistics of the game, including rebounds, getting 28 to BEA’s 23, and having just 12 turnovers to the Bucs’ 14.
But, it was at the free-throw line that BEA was able to put away the game. The Bucs were 10 of 14 at the charity stripe, while the Cards were 3 of 4.
The discrepancy between the free-throws was due to the Bucs having just seven fouls in the game, while the Cards were whistled for 16.
This was the first win of the season for BEA, after having lost two earlier close games.
This week the Bucs have just one game, when they travel to St. Peter on Tuesday night.
