The Buc wrestling team posted a 4-1 record at the Estherville/Lincoln Central duals held Saturday, Jan. 15.

BEA started with a 40-33 win over host Estherville/LC before losing to second round opponent Linn/Mar, 40-24.

The Bucs then defeated Forest City, 45-25; Sioux City Bishop Heelan, 56-18; and Spirit Lake Park, 40-30.

Two wrestlers went 5-0 on the day.

Senior 152-pounder Joe Franta was too much for his opponents. He won three of his matches by technical fall — the match being stopped when a wrestler is 15 points ahead — and a pin.

Johnson collected four of his wins at 215 pounds — one being a major decision — and a pin at heavyweight.

Senior Jake Wirtjes and Carter Hanson finished with 4-1 records.

Wirtjes pinned three of his opponents, the quickest fall taking only 18 seconds. He also won on a 14-2 major decision. His lone loss was by one point, 9-8.

Among his wins, Hanson had a 15-5 major decision. The sophomore’s only loss was a 5-3 overtime decision in his first match of the day.

At 189 pounds, Devon Jahnke picked up three wins and lost once. All of his victories came by way of a pin.

Four wrestlers finished with 3-2 records: Jesse Alleven at 112 pounds; Travis Hagedorn, 119; Mike Ankeny, 125; and Kysten Zierke, 189.

In two of his wins, the freshman Zierke pinned his opponent.

Winning two matches and losing two were 103-pounder Alec Huber and heavyweight Martin Granados.
