Anderson takes 21st at state
With a score of 8.2 on the bars, Chante Anderson earned herself a 21st-place finish on Saturday, Feb. 26, at the state gymnastics tournament in Minneapolis.
Although she had hoped to get an 8.6 or higher, the Blue Earth Area High School junior was still thrilled to even be taking part in the competition.
“I was happy — and excited,” Anderson says. “It was my first time making it to state.”
She went to the tournament Friday night with Buc head coach Sandy Oswald and teammate LaNay Walker, and spent the night taking in the whole experience as the three took to the stands to watch the team competition.
By the next morning, individual competition began and Anderson got some extra support from the 2010-11 BEA gymnastics captains Blaire Zierke and Julia Meyer, who drove up to watch her compete.
The whole event took place in the Sports Pavilion at the University of Minnesota.
“It was a little bit intimidating,” Anderson says. “It’s just so big.”
Now that the tournament is behind her, the soon-to-be high school senior already has new goals in mind for next season on the gymnastics team.
“Just to do well in all-around, and get some new skills,” she says.
Until then, she’ll keep busy with other activities, like participating in track as soon as spring sports start up at BEA.
