Netters drop season opener at Austin, 4-3
The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer boys tennis team traveled to Austin last Tuesday night for their opening match of the season.
They came home with a tough 4-3 loss.
BEA scored two wins in the singles bracket, and added one in the doubles.
No. 1 singles player Aaron Wilhelmi started things off for the Bucs with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Josh Detwiler.
Wade Wilhelmi, at No. 2 singles, fell in a close, hard-fought match against Andrew Hieckley. The scores were 6-4, 7-5.
Riley Holmseth notched a win for the Bucs at No. 3 singles, downing Austin’s Pat Wagner 6-4, 6-3.
Buc freshman Hunter Myers lost 6-0, 6-2 to Bob Sherman at No. 4 singles.
The Buccaneers’ No. 1 doubles team of Hans Kittleson and Colan Surratt defeated Tony Lipari and Joe Urlick.
The Buc duo won the first game in a tough contest, 7-6 (7-4). Then they came back strong, winning game two by a 6-1 score.
Eric Purvis and Chance Andrews fell to Ben Sherman and Max Coffey at No. 2 doubles, 6-0, 6-3.
At No. 3 doubles, Ryan Gronewold and Nick Lein lost 6-0, 6-0 to Michael Thorseim and John Fliener.
