Tennis squad nets 2 victories
In windy conditions the Blue Earth Area Buccaneer tennis team protected their home court with a 4-3 win over New Ulm.
The top three singles players for BEA were solid winning their matches in straight sets.
No. 1 singles player Aaron Wilhelmi got the ball rolling against New Ulm’s Michael Maudal with a tight 6-4, 7-5 victory.
BEA’s Wade Wilhelmi kept the momentum going with a strong match at No. 2 singles. Wilhelmi won the first set 6-0 against Alex King. Wilhelmi then quickly closed out the match winning 6-1 in the second.
In No. 3 singles, Riley Holmseth defeated New Ulm’s Scott Wang by the identical score of his teammate playing in the No. 2 singles match one court over winning 6-0, 6-1.
BEA’s No. 4 singles player Hunter Myers couldn’t complete the sweep in singles play losing 6-1, 6-3 to New Ulm’s Josh Menzel.
In double’s play, the Bucs won the No. 1 match with seniors Hans Kittleson and Colan Surratt disposing of the Eagles’ Blake Burgau and Zack Jensen 6-1,6-2.
The No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams were not as fortunate with Eric Purvis and Nick Lein falling to Chris Dewanz and Isaiah Johnson 6-1, 6-2.
In No. 3 doubles, the team of Chance Andrews and Ryan Gronewold managed to tie the match at one set apiece after a second set 7-5 victory.
The third set wasn’t as friendly as they dropped the final frame 6-0.
The Bucs are now 5-4 overall and 3-1 in the South Central Conference.
BEA 4, Worthington 3
The BEA tennis team also won 4-3 against Worthington, May 6.
The top three singles players were victorious once again with Aaron Wilhelmi at No. 1 singles and Colan Surratt at No. 3 singles winning in straight sets.
It took No. 2 singles player Wade Wilhemi a third set to rally from behind to beat Worthington’s Shane Pedersen 6-7, 6-1,6-4.
At No. 4 singles, BEA’s Eric Purvis lost to Lance Homan 6-4, 4-6, 3-6 in a tightly contested three set match.
In doubles play, all three matches went into a third set with BEA winning the No. 1 contest.
The combination of Hunter Myers and Hans Kittleson secured the meet victory in a three set battle winning 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 over Matt Sorensen and Jonah Oberloh.
The No. 2 team of Ryan Gronewold and Chance Andrews lost 4-6, 7-6 (5), 7-5.
At No. 3 doubles BEA’s Nick Lein and Chandler Kienitz fell 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-1 to Worthington’s Nick Newman and Dillon Pedersen.
