Buc girls 2nd in close contest with Esko
It was a two-team battle between Blue Earth Area and Esko for the title, but the Buc girls track and field fell a little short at the Class A State True Team meet held Saturday, May 21 in Stillwater.
Esko captured the team title with 452 points, 17 better than BEA. United South Central/Alden Conger (286.5) finished sixth in the nine-team field.
“We performed well all day, did what we could but just couldn’t catch a very good Esko team,” says Buc head coach Tom Plocker.
Marissia Hagedorn and Krista Hassing finished first in one event.
Hagedorn made a height of 10 feet, 6 inches to win the pole vault competition, while teammate LaNay Walker took fourth with a vault of 9 feet.
Hagedorn was second in the 100-meter high hurdles, crossing the finish line in 15.60 seconds. She also was runnerup in the 300-meter low hurdles in 48.26 seconds.
USC’s Kendall Ward was fourth in the 100 highs with a time of 17.12 seconds, followed by teammate Lizzy Leland in eighth with 17.83 and BEA’s Kelly Aukes in 10th with 18.37.
In the 300 lows, the Bucs Taylor Grandgenett posted an eighth-place time of 51.44 seconds, followed by Anissa Janzig in ninth place with 52.11 and Ward in 10th place with 52.25, both of USC.
In the 400-meter dash, Hassing finished first in 61.07 seconds. She also took third place in the triple jump with a leap of 32 feet, 9 1/2 inches.
USC’s Allie Voigt had a mark of 30 feet, 9 1/4 inches to take eighth in the triple jump and BEA’s Sara Warmka was 10th with 30 feet, 8 3/4 inches.
The Bucs did well in the relays.
The 4 x 800 squad took second with a time of 10:15.02, while the 4 x 100 team passed the baton in 52.97 seconds to claim second.
In the 4 x 200, BEA’s time of 1:52.84 was good for fourth place.
USC/AC covered the 4 x 400 in 4:15.86 for a third-place finish, while BEA was one spot back with 4:15.92.
The Rebels top finisher was Hannah Goemann in the 800-meter run with a second-place performance of 2:25.48. The Bucs Hassing took fourth in 2:28.74.
Goemann posted the fourth-fastest time in the 1,600-meter run in 5:35.54, while teammate Andrea Escherich took eighth in 5:48.24.
For the Bucs, Taylor Grandgenett’s time of 5:43.87 was good enough for seventh and Signe Olson was 10th in 5:49.63.
Courtney Grandgenett was clocked in 12:22.96 to place fifth in the 3,200-meter run, while Escherich was seventh in 12:37.02 and BEA’s Walker claimed ninth place in 12:42.96.
The Bucs Sydney Ristau took second in the shot put with a toss of 36 feet 2 1/2 inches, while USC’s Amanda Allis claimed third with 36 feet, 2 inches. BEA’s Katie Krieger finished fifth with 32 feet, 9 1/2 inches and the Rebels Voigt was eighth with 29 feet, 4 1/2 inches.
Krieger was third in the discus with a distance of 104 feet, 11 inches, followed by Voigt in sixth place with 90 feet, 6 inches, and BEA’s Hannah Twedt, 90 feet, 5 inches.
In the high jump, Wagner was third for the Bucs with 4 feet, 8 inches. Clearing the same height was USC’s Goemann, while Cassie Thompson was eighth for BEA with 4 feet, 6 inches. In the sprints, Lexi Holland gave BEA a fourth-place performance with a time of 13.59 seconds in the 100-meter dash. She also was fourth in the long jump with a distance of 15 feet, 8 inches.
The Bucs Wagner took ninth place in the 400-meter dash in 64.81 seconds.
In the 200, BEA’s Ashley Olson and Anne Franta had identical times of 28.02 seconds. However, Olson finished one spot ahead in ninth place.
