Bucs sweep Saints

By Staff | Oct 23, 2011

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer volleyball team put together a good team effort last Tuesday night and swept the St. James Saints 25-23, 25-19, 25-21.

“This was a great conference win for us,” says Coach Donna Nawrocki. “However, it was like we were playing in August as the heat in the building in St. James was around 80 degrees. It was cooking in there and definitely draining when we weren’t used to that kind of temperature.”

The Bucs turned up the heat even more, putting in a whole team effort to notch their 15th win of the year.

Annemarie Hoyt had a stellar match, leading the team in kills with 10 and digs with 13.

She also was 11 of 11 at the service line with five points and an ace.

Janessa Jahnke also had 10 kills while Krista Hassing added nine.

Hassing also had 12 digs and four ace blocks for the Bucs.

Sara Warmka led the team in serving, going 15 of 15 with nine points and an ace.

Macy Henningsen had 32 set assists as well as 12 digs.

BEA’s record is 15-6 overall and 8-1 in the South Central Conference.

After participating in a tournament in Rochester this past Friday and Saturday, the Bucs are set to face the Waseca Bluejays in a makeup match on Monday night.

BEA currently has a share of the SCC title and could win the conference outright with a win over Waseca on Monday.
