The Blue Earth Area boys basketball team fell to Le Sueur-Henderson 56-52 in a white-knuckle non-conference game Saturday night.

The Bucs led 18-12 in the early stages of the contest, but were outscored by the Giants 17-7 for the remainder of the first half allowing LSH to establish a 29-25 advantage heading into halftime. The four-point lead ended up being the difference in the game.

In the second frame, the two teams were neck and neck until inside force, Sam Lee, fouled out with five minutes remaining, taking away one of BEA’s most viable options on offense.

Unable to close the gap without Lee in the lineup, BEA came up four points short when the final buzzer sounded.

Another factor hindering the Bucs was poor shooting form the free throw line. The team was only 10 of 20 from the charity stripe costing the Bucs crucial points needed down the stretch.

BEA dominated the boards tallying a commanding 40-19 rebounding edge allowing them to take 21 more shots than their opponent.

BEA couldn’t capitalize on the extra shooting attempts, however, going 19 of 63 from the field while LSH was an economical 19 of 42.

Giant forward Bobby Rose, scored a game-high 17 points to lead LSH in the scoring column.

Isaac Darrington led the Bucs with 15 points and 15 rebounds. The 6-foot-4 forward demonstrated prowess on the offensive glass, snatching six “O” rebounds.

Brandyn Olsen was the next leading Buc scorer, netting 10 points and also dished out four assists.

Point guard Brady Anderson chipped in eight points and added four steals and five assists.

Rounding out the leading scorers for the Bucs was Sam Lee who notched eight points and was the team’s second leading rebounder hauling in 11 boards.
