Gymnasts fall to MCA in close meet

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer gymnastics team returned to competition after a Christmas break and competed very well against the Martin County Area Magic last Thursday. However, BEA lost by a close score of 129.275 to 123.875.

The meet was held on the Magic’s home site in the gym in the school in Welcome.

The Bucs had several gymnasts place on the all-around scoring list, taking every position except the first-place spot.

Leading the way was Cassie Thompson who took second place in all-around with a 32.325 score. In third was Chante Anderson with 31.225.

The Bucs also claimed fourth place with Haley Resutek scoring 29.9, and fifth place with Kayla Schaper scoring 29.025.

Thompson was second on the vault with an 8.7, and third on the floor exercise with an 8.55 and third on the uneven parallel bars with a 7.925. She was also fourth on the balance beam.

Anderson took first place on the uneven bars by scoring an 8.625.

Resutek was third on the vault scoring an 8.55.

Marissia Hagedorn returned to competition after having suffered an injury before the Christmas break. She claimed second place on the beam with a 7.55 score.

The Magic was led by Rebecca Steen who took first in all-around with a score of 35.875.

MCA also claimed victory in the JV meet, downing BEA by a score of 116.8 to 80.65.

The junior Bucs were led by Gracie Leland who was third in all-around with a score of 26.2.

The Bucs next meet will be a trip to Waseca on Thursday. They return to compete at Martin County on Saturday.
