Bucs go 1-1 for the week

The Blue Earth Area baseball team traveled to New Ulm on Thursday to take on the Eagles.

But, the Bucs had trouble mustering many runs and came home with an 8-2 loss to the Eagle nine.

Both of BEA’s two runs came late in the game in the seventh inning.

Meanwhile the Eagles scored two runs in the first inning, four in the second, and another two in the third to take their commanding 8-0 lead throughout the rest of the game until the final inning.

The Buccaneers had six hits in the game, all coming from six different players.

David Franta, Carter Hanson, Blaine Hougen, Andrew Bell, Eric Spellman and Reid Rasmussen all had a hit.

Hanson’s one hit at the plate was good for a double. Hougen and Dallas Barslou were the two Buccaneers who crossed the plate to score runs.

Bell pitched for four innings and gave up the eight Eagle runs seven earned on six hits. He struck out two and walked six.

Zac Bartlett came in for two innings of relief and gave up two hits and no runs.

Chase Meyer of the Eagles went all seven innings and recorded eight strikeouts and walked two Buc batters.

BEA travels to Martin Luther/GHEC on Monday and then hosts the Cardinals of Fairmont on Thursday. They are scheduled to host Blooming Prairie on Saturday in a 10 a.m. game.

BEA 13, LCWM 3

The Buccaneer bats came alive last Monday night as Blue Earth Area blasted Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial 13-3 in baseball action.

It was the first win of the season for BEA, after suffering two losses the week before.

Brandyn Olson and Jonah Pirsig combined for an outstanding night on the mound, allowing just one LCWM hit in the game.

Olson pitched five hitless innings, allowing two runs, neither one earned, and striking out five.

Pirsig came in for two innings of relief and gave up one run on one hit, struck out one and walked one batter.

The Bucs got one run in the first inning when Carter Hanson reached base and came home on a Pirsig double.

In the second inning, the Bucs’ batters struck out three times to quickly end their half of the inning.

But, in the third inning, BEA exploded for six runs, taking a 7-1 lead after three.

In the fourth the Bucs went out on three strikeouts again, but they added two more runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

LCWM had a run score in the third, fifth and seventh innings.

Dallas Barslou led the hit parade for the Buccaneers, going 3 for 4 with two doubles and accounting for four RBI.

Pirsig was also 3 for 4 and had one double and three RBI. Olson was 2 for 4 at the plate and accounted for two RBI.

Hanson and David Franta each batted five times in the game. Hanson was 3 for 5 and Franta 2 for 5 with each getting an RBI.

BEA is slated to play at ML/GHEC on Monday this week, host Fairmont on Thursday and Blooming Prairie on Saturday.
