Bucs take 5th, Zebedee injured

By Staff | Apr 29, 2012

The Bucs won two relays at the Maple River Invite held April 24, but one of the victories proved to be costly.

The 4 x 200-meter relay squad of Nick Beattie (23.7), Isaac Darrington (23.1), Jacob Olson (23.10) and Jake Zebedee (25.2) finished with a winning time of 1:35.36.

However, Zebedee pulled a hamstring while running the anchor leg.

The injury may have occurred during the exchange of the baton.

Zebedee, who usually has a split of under 23 seconds, pulled up with about 70 yards left in the race

The Bucs had such a large lead that he was able to limp the rest of the way for a first-place finish.

“It’s not a season-ending injury. I think in time he’ll be O.K.,” says Jake’s father, Steve.

Zebedee scratched himself from two other events, including the pole vault competition.

On Wednesday, Zebedee was examined at a Mankato clinic.

“They told us it was a slight pull. It could have been worse,” says Steve. “As to when he’ll be back, it’s a day-to-day thing.”

The 4 x 100-meter relay also took first place, in helping BEA to a fifth-place team finish.

Beattie, Justin Ritter, Jacob Olson and Darrington combined for a winning time of 45.03 seconds.

In the 4 x 400, Jacob Olson (52.9), Taylor Olson (55.1), Steven Plocker (56.9) and Bailey Olson (54.8) registered a second-place time of 3:40.770.

BEA had only one individual winner, Beattie in the 200-meter dash in 23.02 seconds. He also took third in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, one-half inch.

Josh Johnson uncorked a toss of 48 feet, 2 inches to place second in the shot put. That puts him No. 5 all-time outdoors.

Sam Lee was fourth with a distance of 45 feet, 2 inches, and he was also fourth in the discus with 116 feet, 3 1/2 inches.

Taking third in the triple jump with a distance 36 feet, 1 1/2 inches was Baily Olson, while Darrington cleared the bar at 5 feet, 6 inches to take third in the high jump.
