Netters lose to Luverne, Worthington
The Luverne Cardinals continued their winning ways against the Buc boys tennis team in a dual meet at Schroeder Courts in Blue Earth.
On Tuesday, they shut out their opponents to claim the Southwest Conference title.
Thursday the Cardinals blanked the Bucs 7-0 to improve their season record to 15-2.
BEA’s Hunter Myers lost at No. 1 singles to Joey Vajgrt, 6-1, 6-1.
No. 2 singles Eric Purvis fell to Dustin Deutsch, 6-1, 6-0, while BEA’s number three singles Ben Gettis was defeated by Jonny Vajgrt, 6-0, 6-1.
Luverne’s Andrew Jelken beat Tristan Drake 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.
In doubles action, the No. 1 team of Jaron King and Chandler Kienitz lost, 6-1, 6-1.
Nick Lein and Trenton Stindtman were beaten by the No. 2 duo of Ethan Johnson and Nathan Stensland-Bos, 6-0, 6-3.
The Cardinals completed the sweep with Hunter Robinson and Zach Gillette winning over Cole Klinksiek and Martin Granados at No. 3 doubles, 6-1, 6-3.
In a make-up meet, the Bucs lost to non-conference opponent Worthington on Tuesday in Blue Earth.
The Trojans cruised to a 6-1 win.
BEA’s lone point came when the No. 3 doubles pair of Cole Klinksiek and Martin Granados downed the team of Brandon Herberts and Sebastian Licea, 6-1, 6-1.
Chandler Kienitz and Trenton Stindtman teamed up at No. 2 doubles and lost 6-3, 6-0 to Isaac Housley and Jonah McDonald.
The Bucs No. 1 pair of Ben Gettis and Jaron King were beaten by A.J. Hayenga and Nick Newman, 6-2, 6-2.
The closest singles match was at No. 2, with BEA’s Eric Purvis taking on Lance Homen.
The Worthington senior prevailed, winning in two sets, 6-3 and 6-4.
At No. 1 singles, Hunter Myers fell to Dan Wetering, 6-0, 6-2.
Nick Lein lost to Carter Lindney 6-4 and 6-0 at No. 3 singles.
Worthington’s No. 4 singles player Andrew Johnson beat Tristan Drake, 6-0, 6-1.
BEA begins Section 2A team play today.
The No. 6-seeded Bucs go on the road to take on No. 3-seed Holy Family Catholic High School.
The winner will face either No. 2-seed Mound Westonka or No.7-seed Redwood Valley.
