Bucs claim share of SCC title
The Blue Earth Area volleyball team earned a win against their rivals, the Fairmont Cardinals.
The Bucs hosted the Cards in a conference match on their home court and sent them back to Fairmont with a loss.
But, not without a fight.
The two teams played head to head in a five-game match that ended 3-2.
The two teams started out the match with a game that could’ve gone either way, but just barely ended up in the Cards favor, 26-24.
With one win under their belt, Fairmont let their guard down and BEA?won the second game, 25-13.
Fairmont gained the lead back in the third game by winning it 25-23.
The Bucs regained their composure between the third and fourth games which seemed to improve their gameplay, and they won the fourth game, 25-16.
Sitting with two games a piece, Fairmont and BEA?went into the fifth game of the match to determine the winner.
Only playing up to fifteen in the final game, BEA?won the game and match 15-10.
Monica Krieger led the team on Tuesday night with an impressive 55 set assists.
Krista Hassing had 31 kills for the Bucs and also had 21 digs and six ace blocks.
Janessa Jahnke had 18 digs and 17 kills. She also served a perfect 20 of 20 scoring with 15 points and one ace.
Audrey Mcdonald also had a hot night at the service line going 19 of 19, scoring 12 points. She also had 15 digs and five kills.
Ashton Hendricksen had 18 digs and eight kills for the Bucs. Whitney Pirsig went 8 for 9 serving, scoring three aces.
BEA’s win against Fairmont bumps their conference record to 8-1 and their overall record to 17-6.
Fairmont is now 6-3 in the conference and is in third place.
BEA?is currently in first in the South Central Conference and St. Peter in second place with a 6-2 conference record.
One conference game remains for the Bucs. They will take on the Waseca Bluejays in Blue Earth on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
