Tennis 2nd at Section tourney
The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer tennis team took home the runner-up trophy at the Section 2A Girls Tennis Tournament.
On Monday, the Bucs defeated Jordan 4-3 in the morning semi-finals match, then fell 6-1 to Waseca in the championship match later the same day.
The No. 2-seeded Buccaneers took on the No. 3 seed Jordan Jaguars in a close, hard-fought battle.
BEA won all three doubles matches and one singles match to pull out the victory.
The key match for the Bucs came at No. 3 doubles.
Beka Krussow and Kali Viland teamed up to take on Katie Olson and Trianna Thong of Jordan.
The Jaguar pair won the first set, 6-3. The Buccaneer duo had to win the second set, and pulled out a tough one, 7-6 (3) win.
That set up the third and crucial final set, which Krussow and Voland won decisively, 6-1.
Kaitlyn Olsen was the lone singles winner, downing her Jordan opponent, Victoria Read, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 4 singles.
At No. 1 doubles, Karli Olsen and Natali Fellows defeated Justine Lloyd and Paige Moran, 6-2, 6-3.
Aeli Olson and Paige Darrington won their match at No. 2 doubles over Paige Huss and Carina Larson, 6-4, 6-2.
At No. 1 singles, Karleigh Wolff was defeated by Drew DeCorsey, 6-3, 6-1.
The Bucs’ Lindsey Prokop lost to Alex Hancock at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-3.
At No. 3 singles, Anikka Wilhelmi lost 6-1, 6-0 to Rachel Menke.
Against Waseca, the No. 1 seed, BEA had one victory. The Bucs’ Kaitlyn Olsen defeated the Bluejays’ Anna Hoehn in a three set contest, 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4 singles.
Karleigh Wolff lost to Waseca’s Abby Collins 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 singles.
At No. 2 singles, Lindsey Prokop fell to Alicia Knoll 6-0, 6-1, and at No. 3 singles, Anikka Wilhelmi lost 6-0, 6-1 to Maddie Muotka.
The Bucs’ freshmen duo of Karli Olsen and Natali Fellows lost their No. 1 singles match to Bluejay seniors Abby Hoehn and Shanly Nelson, 7-5, 6-2.
At No. 2 doubles, Aeli Olson and Paige Darrington lost to Bailey Krueger and Olivia McIntosh, 6-1, 6-3.
Beka Krussow and Kali Viland lost 6-4, 6-1 to Katie Tlusty and Maddie Knoll at No. 3 doubles.
The Buccaneers end their team competition season with a 12-6 overall record, 3-2 in the South Central Conference.
Individual members of the team will still be competing in the Section 2A Individual Tournament this past Thursday at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter.
