State win causes boys sports delay
While no one is complaining much about it, the recent State Championship win by the Buccaneer football team has caused a delay in the start of the winter sports season at Blue Earth Area.
While the girls basketball season is under way, the boys season will be delayed. In fact, the team has not yet started practice, but is expected to today, Monday, at the earliest.
The first three games have been postponed, including Tuesday’s and Friday’s games this week. The season opener game set for this past Friday against Le Sueur-Henderson has been rescheduled for Jan. 15.
“I told the coaches to take at least a week off,” says BEA activities director Rob Norman. “The football boys need some time to heal up before they start winter sports.”
And, the new boys basketball coach is Randy Kuechenmeister, who just finished coaching the football team to a state championship.
The same issue has hit the Buccaneer wrestling team, with many of the football team out for that sport this winter.
The first wrestling match of the year had been set for last Thursday against USC, but it has been postponed.
The Dick Maher Invitational Wrestling Tournament was still set for this past Saturday, although it is doubtful the Bucs will have more than three varsity starters participating.
“We have a lot of other teams coming, so we will have the Maher Invitational as scheduled,” Norman says.
