The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers Gymnasts were on top of their game at the Thursday, Jan. 3, meet against the Martin County Area Magic but ended up taking second place.

MCA finished with a team total of 130.125 taking a narrow victory against BEA’s 127.45.

Three BEA?gymnasts took the top three spots in all-around scores. Christina Anderson was the all around top scorer receiving a 32.50.

Haley Resutek coming in with a final all around score of 32.30 placed second, and Cassie Thompson came in third with 32.25.

The Magic’s Sydney Leichtnam took fourth in all-around with a final total of 31.50.

The Bucs’ took the high score on the vault with a team score of 34.625, and three Bucs placing in that event. Thompson placed first on the vault with a best score of 9.

Resutek had a score of 8.80 which put her in second place, and Anderson came in fourth place with a score of 8.65.

BEA just barely outscored MCA on the floor with a 33.60 to the Magic’s 33.575.

Thompson took first in this event as well with an average of 8.85.

Two gymnasts from MCA Maggie Bachenberg and Martha Olson tied for second place on the floor with an average score of 8.725.

Anderson finished out the event in fourth with 8.50.

Becca Steen of MCA took first place on the uneven bars with an average of 8.625.

However, Anderson came in second and received an average of 7.95.

The Buc’s Thompson tied for third with the Magic’s Leichtnam, both averaging 7.725.

In the beam event, MCA took three of the four top-scoring spots, placing Steen in first, Mackenzie Betts in second and Leichtnam in fourth.

BEA’s Resutek came in third place with an average score of 7.70.

The Bucs JV?gymnasts fell to the Magic who finished with a score of 118.25 to BEA’s 74.9.

MCA’s Cara Behrends finished first for all-around gymnast with a score of 27.65.

Mallory Huber and Melissa Hagedorn took second and third place for all-around.

Hagedorn received a score of 25.05 and Huber had a total of 23.3.

The Buc’s will host the Waseca Bluejays Friday, Jan. 11, for their next meet.
