Buc gymnasts take 1st

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers gymnastics hosted the Mankato East Cougars in Winnebago on Jan. 22.

The Cougars showed some strength on the vault and beam, but the Bucs took first place at the meet.

BEA finished with a team total of 127.625; 34.3 on the vault, 30.2 on the bars, 29.975 on the beam and 33.15 on the floor.

Mankato East had a team total of 123.775; 34.65 on vault, 27.45 on bars, 29.875 on beam and 31.8 on floor.

The Cougars Meghan Dauk was first place on the uneven bars. She received an 8.9.

Cassie Thompson placed second with a score of 7.85. Christina Anderson and Haley Resutek tied with each other for third place with a score of 7.6.

Dauk took first place again, this time on the vault. she had a score of 9.475.

Thompson placed second on the vault with a 8.9. Resutek came in fourth with 8.75.

The Bucs barely outscored the Cougars on the beam, with a 29.975 compared to their 29.875.

In fact, Thompson was the only Buc to place in that event. She took second place with a score of 8.025.

The Bucs floor routines brought in a 33.15 for a team total and beat the Cougars with a score of 31.8.

Thompson received a score of 9.15 which put her in the first place position.

Resutek came in second place behind her teammate with a score of 8.6.

Mankato East’s Dauk came in first place for all- around with a score of 34.1.

Thompson was second place for all-around and received a 33.925.

Resutek placed third with 32.325 and Christina Anderson placed fouth with 31.2.

The Bucs JV gymnasts also won their meet against Mankato East with a team total of 69.85 to 41.55.

Mallorie Huber placed first on vault with 8.25. Kristine Brown came in second with 8.0 and Brianna Ziegler placed third with 7.9.

Huber placed first on the uneven bars with a score of 4.75 and Melissa Hagedorn came in third with 4.3.

Hagedorn took the first place spot on the beam and received a score of 6.0.

She also took the first place position with her floor routine receiving a score of 7.5.

Huber came in third on the floor event with a 6.4. She was also first for all-around gymnast with a total score of 23.5.
