The Bucs wrestling team went 4-0 at the Luverne Duals held Saturday, Jan. 19.

But, the squad needed to go to the rule book to earn a 35-34 win over Pipestone in the first round.

BEA trailed 28-10 with five matches left after Carter Hanson put four points on the scoreboard with a 17-6 major decision.

Pins by Gus Phillips at 170, Chris Ramos (182) and Kysten Zierke (195) tied the score at 28-28.

However, Pipestone regained the lead with a pin at 220.

That meant heavyweight Martin Granados would have to pin his opponent to knot the score.

The Buc sophomore put his opponent’s shoulders to the mat in 5:34.

BEA got the team victory under the 10th criteria of the tie-breaker system – the team having the greater number of takedowns.

In Round 2, BEA downed Sioux Falls Lincoln 54-16, Brandon Valley 47-20 in Round 3 and Worthington 54-15 in their final dual of the day.

Five wrestlers posted 4-0 records for the day.

All of Granados’ wins came by way of a fall and 195-pounder Kysten Zierke had three pins in his four victories.

Luke Schavey registered two pins and two decisions at 145 and Chris Ramos collected three decisions and a pin at 182 pounds.

Hanson had two major decisions, one pin and a tech fall.

A trio of Bucs won three matches and lost one.

At 138, Jesse Alleven recorded three falls, while Gus Phillips had two pins and one decision at 170.

David Franta had a tech fall and decision among his wins at 152, and Mike Ankeny pinned two opponents at 132 to go 2-2 for the day.
