By Staff | Apr 21, 2013

Trying to ‘make hay while the sun shines,’ the Blue Earth Area Buccaneer baseball team decided to play two games against New Ulm on Tuesday afternoon and evening.

But, the visiting Eagles from New Ulm came out on top of both games, winning 4-0 in game one and then 9-1 in the nightcap of the double header.

In the first game, Buccaneer Brandyn Olsen pitched six innings and gave up all four runs two of them earned on five hits.

He struck out five and walked two.

Dallas Barslou came in for one inning of relief and allowed no runs or hits and walked one batter.

Olsen was the team leader at the plate, going 2 for 2. Barslou, Quinn Huisman and Reid Rasmussen got BEA’s other hits, for a total of five for the team.

Chase Meyer pitched all seven shut-out innings for the Eagles, striking out 10 Buccaneer batters and issuing three walks.

The Eagles scored two runs right away in the first inning, adding one more in the third and a final one in the sixth.

In the second game, New Ulm scored three runs in the first, one in the second and another two in both the fourth and fifth innings.

The Bucs lone run came right away in the first inning when Barslou came in to score on an Olsen base hit.

Olsen was again a perfect 2 for 2 at the plate. Seth Anderson was 2 for 3 hitting.

David Franta and Huisman gathered the Bucs other two hits for the team’s total of six.

Alex Stewart pitched 2 2/3 innings and gave up five runs, all earned, on six hits. He walked eight Eagle batters.

Huisman came in for 2 1/3 innings and gave up four runs, two earned, on six hits. He struck out two and walked four.

Alex Gustafson pitched one inning with no runs, hits, strike outs or walks.
